With overcast skies and waterlogged roads getting you all gloomy, there is one that will make you jump and that is Sales! Walk into any mall and chances are that most have sales ““ flat or up to. Gucci, Burberry, Diesel, Zara, Mango, FCUK, Esprit and others are all on sale.

Well, I admit for the first time in black and white that I am a shopaholic. Every time I find different excuses to shop up and sales top the list. Sales provide the perfect fodder for justifying this erratic behaviour. Everything is on discount. I should stock up for future requirements. Grab that piece that I had been eyeing for some time. Nevertheless, if you have the time to browse through every rack, at every store; you are truly blessed. Enjoy your sale bliss.

Then there are the lesser fortunate ones ““ hard-pressed for time but still desperate to indulge in retail therapy. What doesn’t help is that in most stores, leaving out the upscale ones, clothes are strewn all over the place. You will see heaps of bags, belts, clothes and shoes lay in a mess. Chances are if you find that perfect shoe of your size, you may have to shed blood and tears to find its pair.

In such mayhem, head starts spinning, elbow duels among shoppers and overworked staff only makes it worse. That’s why this time, when I walked in stores, I decided 15 minutes is all you need to browse through stuff. If by then you don’t have something worthwhile in your hands, chances are even if you spend a couple of hours your status will be the same.

MY PICKS FOR MONSOON

This season you will find plenty of shorts in all hues, designs and fabrics. Cotton shorts in white, lemon yellow, floral prints or linen pants would make for an ideal monsoon purchase. But if you do chance on a lemon yellow vest, capris or a smartly-cut kurta, you must pick it. Pastel shades like pistachio green, pretty pinks, sky blues and peachish oranges is best for the season.

Go for nice printed wrap dresses, floral print dresses or even shirt-dresses in stripes or block colours. Cropped pants in different colours are also a good pick. Floral or plain jump suits make for a good option during the rains.

When it comes to footwear, I would recommend heading to the corner that stocks flip flops, strappy flats or wedges in prints, stripes or a myriad of colours.

The thin knotted or plain belts are apt as monsoon accessories.

I would completely avoid blazers and blingy sequined skirts, dresses or tops. They just don’t fit right for monsoons and we must stop hoarding for the coming seasons because lets accept it, there will soon be winter sales too.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS

MANGO: For variety of denims and shorts in so many fits, washes and colours at steal-away prices. Also, their beaded neck pieces as well as chunky bangles are to die for.

ZARA: For sheer dresses and blouses in beautiful colours and prints. I especially love their dresses in animal and bird prints and rainbow coloured cropped pants.

ALDO: For the footwear and slim reversible belts in lovely colours at a great bargain.

ESPRIT: For a good collection of jumpsuits and short dresses.

GUCCI: If you have been eyeing those lovely belts or daily hobos for quite some time… Here’s the perfect reason to pick them up!

Designer: Various multi designer stores are also on sale. If you have been looking out to pick some good designer ethnic wear, you could land a good deal.
