To Dress Right Always Accessorise

By: Payal Hindocha

Like salads without dressing and cupcakes without frosting, a wardrobe without eclectic accessories is not worth flaunting. Fussing over bags, shoes, scarves, belts, earrings, rings, bracelets, neckpieces, headbands is not just for brats. In fact, every girl needs to pay extra attention to their accessories as much as their clothes and make-up.

As make-up can make or break a look, similarly accessories can turn your evening around (in your favour, of course). No wonder fashion giants like Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Christian Loubotin have a dedicated accessories segment. But remember: too much of anything is bad.

Anusha Lalwani Clutches

Accessory designer Anusha Lalwani is known to adorn celebrity hands with stylish hand-painted clutches. She says, “Accessorising is very crucial as it diversifies your wardrobe in a cost effective way. A single outfit could take you from boardrooms and formal dinners to coffee shops and cinemas with just a minor change in accessories.”

Your simple Little Black Dress could be accessorised differently to suit the occasion. When combined with a bright-coloured blazer, nude peep toes and formal handbag, it would take you right into office cubicles. A perky scarf, basic pumps, casual sling bag and floral earrings could work well for casual outings, while a nice neckpiece and clutch would get you ready to hit the floor. You can also drape a scarf in 10 different ways.

Anusha had some DIY tips to refurbish old accessories. Like you stick some sequins on an old pair of shoes or even paint the heels of a pair of wedges in rainbow acrylic colours. She gave tips to camouflage cellulite, create illusion of height and highlight your best features. All this with the mere art of accessorising! To look taller, wear nude colour footwear with heels. Slimmer belts on bigger waists and vice versa. Bold prints, bright colours and chunky jewellery to draw attention to your strong areas and away from the ones you want to hide. If you are apple-shaped then chunky neck pieces, attention-drawing necklines and bold prints on the top are a big NO. Similarly if you are short footwear with straps will make you look shorter. If you have a pear shape, then avoid a big hobo or sling bag that draws attention to the lower part of your body.

Quoting Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And The City, “It’s just a little bag but we feel naked in public without it.” Need I say more!
