Style Guide From Delhi Couture Extravaganza

At the recently concluded India Bridal Fashion Week and FDCI’s PCJ Delhi Couture Week, we got to see several phenomenal collections from reputed Indian designers and also a few that made us cringe. Here, we weed out the best from the worst, for you.

At the India Bridal Fashion Week, we got to see many designers going extravagant with bling and shimmer. It’s a little sad that even big designers, sometimes, gave us some of the most ridiculous collections. But of course, there were other few that stood out.

The first among those has to be Rohit Bal. He won us over with his mumul collection, inspired by the Victorian era. Be his lehengas or Victorian style collars, there wasn’t a thing not to like! We’re almost sure of seeing some of the garments off the red carpet pretty soon.

JJ Vallaya always impresses with his grand luxe style. And, of course, that shows in his collection too. We totally loved the velvet jackets, also his trademark. However, he could have ditched the fringes on the arms of one of those full sleeve jackets. But that minor hitch apart, we think velvet too is making a comeback, so perhaps its time you bring out your embellished velvet blouses and sport them with plain saris in solids.

The Delhi Couture Week was dominated with nudes, velvets, prints and neons. Needless to say, this week holds a lot of importance in terms of fashion because some of the major designers of the country showcased their collections here.

Top on our charts is Manish Arora marking his debut in the market of Indian bridal wear with INDIAN’ BY MANISH ARORA. Arora showed an eccentric collection comprising simple silhouettes with not so simple designs and works. Using neons and other bright colours, he made each and every piece worth the buy.

Manish Malhotra always goes for feminine designs and luxurious fabrics and materials. Concluding the show with Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, he showed us why he continues to be the industry’s favourite. Taking the inspiration from the 30’s, he presented some stunning vintage-style lehengas.

Last but not the least, Sabyasachi Mukherjee has finally moved on from his days of black and white. He has started experimenting with colours, but has moved to a lighter palette of nudes. Irrespective of the colour palette, the designer always impresses with his design and crafts technique. Using khadi and sequins, he too made to our list of favourites.

We loved the sequined jackets, full sleeve but backless blouses and voluminous lehengas.
