And the six day fashion fest has begun… Lakme Fashion Week’s day one saw some beautifully crafted fall winter creations.

The day began with Gennext designers showcasing their finest creations for this fall. Nitin Chawla opened the Gennext show with his collection of stark blacks and greys with a few hints of browns. Nitin’s collection was followed by Aditi Holani’s collection of nude shades and dull tones. What we liked at the show were the pretty box heels which otherwise look extremely hideous but the designer managed to add all the glamour to the box(heel)! Thinking inside the box? The Quirky Rixi Bhatia created amazing interesting outfits with the use of bright colours! Aditi’s dull and nude tones were over compensated by Quirk box collection and we totally loved the Mint green minion print saree and blouse! Next designer from the Gennext batch literally created some head turning designs. Pronoy Kapoor’s white net unsual hats were totally an avant garde’s idea! Aiman and Arman brought back the ramp to traditional with their monochromatic collection.

The young and extremely talented designers, Nikhil Thampi, Nishka Lulla and Nimish Shah showcased their collection after the Gennext show. Nikhil Thampi’s all gold and black collection was exceptionally well crafted. The golden patch work and gold net over black garments was head to toe classy! Raw silk and net were drapped together to create an Indian Punk look.  While Nikhil Thampi opted for golds and blacks, girly girl Nishka Lulla opted for neutral shades which was a treat for the viewers. The cute skirts in the shades of peach and brown created the nostalgic environment of back to school in winter. After the girly girl collection, Nimish Shah presented his sophisticated urban chic collection. Velvets added all the class to the garments while the bold floral prints brought in the feminine side of the collection. The designer maintained harmony between girly and womanly by adding bow to the velvet dresses.

The third set of designers were out to explore India and Thailand literally! Debarun Mukherjee’s collection was all about knowing Indian weaves, embroidery and fabrics. The vintage embroidery jackets for men were our favourites! The beautiful hues of reds and greens were blended perfectly for a vibrant yet elegant collection. If you’re a hardcore fashionista then you’ll be tempted to grab some of the polka dotted leggings which were showcased at Vijay Balhara’s collection! The matte gold work on the necklines gave a rural touch to the otherwise urban outfits. If you’re a bride- to-be then debutant Shilpa Reddy’s ‘Suryothai’ collection is a must watch for you! The unconventional mix of Indian Salwar Kameez with traditional Thai architecture with over the top use of gold and mad shoulder details definitely stood out from the rest of the collections. Dressed like a ‘Woman Warrior’, the designer Shilpa Reddy walked down the ramp as showstopper for her own show. Our verdict all that glitters is not gold.

The next designer, Jatin Varma, took the audience to a designer’s paradise. The romantic tunes and the headgears were brought together to showcase romanticism in wilderness. Very well crafted crochet bound nylon mesh gowns were the highlights of the show. The designer created his unique style of silhouettes and cuts with panache. Colour palette ranged from hot pinks to deep blues and purples. Payal Singhal, portrayed pure excellence with her collection ‘Char Bagh’. Graphic bold prints and the delicate embroidery translated nature to textile and clothing. Pale pink and blacks added femininity to the otufits made out of silk mul, cotton and crepe silk. Stunning Lisa Haydon walked the ramp for Payal Singhal.

Priyadarshani Rao made a come back to Lakme Fashion Week with her graceful collection. Bohemian prints with an urban edge ruled the collection.we absolutely loved the floral printed jackets with pocket detailing at the show. If you’ve never been to Mauritius, then worry not! Just watch Ranna Gill’s show and you’ll be transported to Mauritius in a few seconds, we promise! The mint greens, light blues, yellows and neons definitely brought out the beach-y sides of the models 😛 Ranna Gill drew inspirations from the sand and beaches of Mauritius and brought the island on textile. Checkered prints and pleatted polka dot pants were a proof of the designer’s ability to create master pieces. Yami Gautam walked the ramp for Ranna Gill.
