India is growing and so is Indian cinema. The borders are spreading and we are in an era of welcoming multi-cultural talent with arms wide open. Ann Mitchai, a popular singer from Thailand made her debut in Bollywood with Ishq Actually alongside Rajeev Khandelwal. She has also sung two songs for the movie. We wonder how this cordial blend happened and Ann enlightens us, “We are a Thailand-based team. We came to India to do international music albums in hindi which would sell in Thailand and India together. After that, I got the opportunity to know Bollywood through my friend. He introduced me to some of his director and producer friends. And that’s how this beautiful voyage happened.”

Instances like these further assert the fact that the world is infact, not as big as it seems. Afterall how much are we different from each other? Ann believes we are but one big family, with a lot of similarities, “I see India is very culture centric. I can relate to it because, I myself have been raised in a culture-centric family in Thailand. We have always embraced culture in the form of art. We are in show business. I keep travelling to places with my brother for various performances. Infact, I many a times used Indian dance mixes in my show- especially Bollywood. I was surprised that my fans liked my Indian dance so much. We also use Indian wear very often. After a while, I realised that I am so close to both Indian and Thai culture. I know so many Indians in Thailand. I also learned hindi singing because my fans back in Thailand loved Indian mixes in my dance and songs. So, I thought, why not bring the two cultures together? We are not that far away after all.”

Ann Mitchai, as gorgeous as she is, always have been very much involved in decisions regarding her look in her performances and music videos. She is so fond of Indian cinema that she often used to dress up getting inspired from Indian movies and magazines. Ann shares with us, “Saris are also popular in Thailand. I had the opportunity to wear this attire due to India inspired performances I did. I have also done magazine cover shoots in Indian Bridal wear in Thailand. I love saris; I think they are artistic and beautiful.”

When it comes to celluloid, one can never miss out on talking about the performers. But can an actress compliment another? Sure, Ann can, she says, “I like Sri Devi, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aishwariya is beautiful and very popular even in Thailand. I have watched her movie Devdas. While Sri Devi, I believe is a spectacular dancer. There is so much to learn from them. I also like the men in Bollywood- Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir kapoor.”

Ann Mitchai has so much inclination and knowledge about Indian culture, clothes and cinema-one would feel she is Indian. But does it actually matter? As she said we are one big family and India has only welcomed talent irrespective of the country they come from.  After all, we live in a cosmopolitan world, don’t we?

All the best Ann, you have a long way to go! xx
