Blenders Pride Fashion Tour Day 1

It had only just begun and the ramp was already set on fire. Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour 2013 commenced its two-day stop at Mumbai on 23rd November with Gaviin Miguel and Suneet Varma being the forerunners and taking the stage by storm.

Gaviin Miguel’s collection Warriors of Heaven on Earth was inspired by the strong and powerful women in his life. His signature futuristic style was not hidden as the models walked down the ramp, looking fierce as he intended. Color palette was predominated by midnight and Russian Blue, (ox)bloody red as well as black, silver, gold with a metallic effect. Sheer+solid+sequins was the formula he banked upon, and it turned out to be an effective one. Make-up was kept simple, non-frivolous; hair was neatly tied in a sleek high-ponytail for most of the models. The show was completely houseful and we saw disappointed faces at the end of it- disappointed because they couldn’t get enough of the splendid exhibit of Gaviin’s collection.

Actress Kangana Ranaut nailed the sheer look as she walked in one Gaviin’s most exquisite and stunning sheer gown that left the shutterbugs stun for a moment. She walked down the ramp looking gorgeous in an ultra-modern micro-bob and when someone complimented her on it, she simply said, “All the credit goes to Gaviin’s wife Caroline.”

Suneet Varma’s show was a mix of design and poetry, with voice overs by Farookh Shiekh, singer Radhika Chopra and poets Indira Varma and Zehra Nigah which gave the audience a visual and soulful treat. He took inspiration from his mother’s poetry and weaved it into fine clothing. The collection was unadulterated and traditional. Predominated by white and gold, pink, red and turquoise blue were also parts of the palette. The entire collection looked like the precious blue-white-gold porcelain items we preserve at home and dare not let any kids touch them. The show was a class act. However, having said that, FMW found it lacked innovation. The collection was beautiful yet conventional.

But then again, some of us want to look pretty unconventionally as seen at Gaviin’s show while some of us are traditional at heart and love the styles that already exist. If you fall in the latter category- Suneet Varma’s designs are just what you might need.

What is your style? Unconventional or traditional? Do let us know. xx
