While the American presence is still remarkable in this year’s festival as always, a new trend has also emerged in the form of foreign directors especially from Europe who have presented their work in the English language, probably in hopes of making their audience larger than life. After all, who wouldn’t like the work of Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino who has an Oscar to his name, starring American actors like Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, and Michael Caine. Such a change has made the best Cannes trends story for this year so far.
